(13) The future of Shaolin Monastery is bluntly challenging the whole Shaolin monastic population. This challenge has to be taken up seriously; else the monastery is sure to be getting nowhere. Since I have promised to hold myself responsible for the development of Shaolin Monastery in the forthcoming period of one thousand and five hundred years [sic], I have no alternative but to persist in proceeding in the direction I have been following in recent years.
