When a wandering monk passed through a nunnery supervised by an old woman, he asked the woman, "Master, is there others in the nunnery except you?"

Old woman: "Yes."

Wondering monk: "Why can't I see them?"

Old woman: "Here, all the rivers and mountains as well as the grass and woods are all my companions!"

Wondering monk: "The insentient beings are not the sentient beings. Are the rivers, mountain, grass and woods like you?"

Old woman: "What do you think am I like?"

Wondering monk: "A worldling."

Old woman: "You are not a monk, either!"

Wondering monk: "Master, you mustn't confuse the Dharma!"

Old woman: "I am not confusing the Dharma."

Wondering monk: "In a nunnery supervised by a worldling, the grass and woods are companions. Aren't you confusing the Dharma?"

Old woman: "Master, you can't talk that way. You are a man, while I am a woman, have I ever got confused?"

The universe is originally a unity, and there is no difference between the mind, the Buddha and the sentient beings. So the old woman never confuses the Dharma. However, we usually distinguish between good and evil, right and wrong, sentient and insentient, even male and female, worldly and unworldly, making them antitheses.
