Chan master Baiyin was always extolled by people, and everybody acclaimed him to be a pure saint.

There was a couple who have a food store nearby. They also have a beautiful daughter.

Surprisingly, one day the couple found their daughter had an ever bigger belly, which made them outraged. Then they questioned her for that. At the beginning, the daughter would not confess who that man was. But after coercing once and again, she finally brought out the name of Baiyin. 

Her parents were furious and went to Baiyin. However, the master uttered only the same words all the time, "Is that so?"

Then the baby was born and was given to master Baiyin.

As a result, master Baiyin was thoroughly discredited, and everybody sniffed at him. But he didn’t mind it; he just took care of the child carefully. He begged around for the milk and supplies the baby needed.

One year later, the unmarried mother could not stand the inner torment, and told her parents the truth. As it turned out, the child’s father was a young man.

The girl's parents brought her to master Baiyin for apology, begged for his forgiveness, and took the child back home.

Master Baiyin said nothing but "Is that so?" in a quiet voice when he gave back the child.
