Constant devotion to philanthropy is one feature of Shaolin Monastery’s performance. And the feature is very important to the monastery. From time immemorial the monastery has been clinging to probity and patriotism as the core of its monastic ethics. Since China set off on her path of reform and opening to the outside world, the monastery has been, year in and year out, multiplying its exertions to fulfill its philanthropic pledges of curbing impoverishment, giving relief to victims of natural disasters, and offering aid to the disadvantaged. And, being faithful to its tradition, the monastery has been carrying out its regular philanthropic undertakings annually in active cooperation with the local government of the place where the monastery is located.
