(9) It is no exaggeration to say that every step taken by Shaolin Monastery for promoting its growth has been greeted with adversity and opposition. Since we, Buddhist votaries, would not embark on any undertaking unless it is in the interest of our faith, I have been both pushy and apathetic in the face of the adversity and opposition, so long as they stem merely from a pique absolutely foreign to our faith. There is a common saying which says, “Different people have different voices”. If you would leave yourself susceptible to every comment from your surroundings, you were to find even nowhere to stand on the surface of the earth, and in that case those who have meant to frustrate you would just gloat over your fuss. As I have never swerved from my faith when engaging in any undertaking, my mind has always been at ease though I have found myself physically exhausted now and then.
