Where last year we were forced to celebrate Buddha's birthday in a very small setting, this year the Shaolin Centre in Haarlem (Netherlands) the opportunity to invite everyone. Fortunately, this was largely responded to and there were participants of all ages. 

After reciting a Buddhist mantra, a kung fu demonstration was given. Here the advanced students showed what they are working on. A number of beginners from the audience were also given the opportunity for this. 

During the celebration of the birth of Buddha, the explanation of the symbolism should not be missed. Shaolin lay Disciple Yanfeng (Ronald Saarloos) gave a short explanation about this. This was followed by a lion dance. According to tradition, the baby Buddha was then washed. 

The table looked beautiful and the flowers smelled delicious. All this added to the experience of mindful washing of the Buddha.
