(6) The only difference between a Chan master and a lay person consists in the fact that the former has attained enlightenment while the latter hasn’t yet. Whether having become a Buddhist monk or nun or not, whether having lived in a monastery or not, and whether having put on monastic apparel or not cannot be indications signifying the difference between a Chan master and a lay person.
