Master Hongyi was an artist before becoming a monk, so he studied Buddhism and art together, and evinced the very special world of life.

One day, famous educator Xia Mianzun paid a visit to him.

Seeing Master Hongyi only ate a dish of pickled vegetables over the meal, Mr. Xia said sympathetically,” Master, don’t you think pickled vegetables are too salty?”

"Salt offers its special taste.” Master answered.

After the meal, Master drank a cup of plain boiled water.

Mr. Xia asked again, “Master, don’t you have any tea? How should you drink the plain boiled water every day?”

Mater smiled and said, “Plain boiled water also has its special taste though it’s very bland.”
