Master Tanshan and a disciple went out after a heavy rainfall. Reaching the bank, they observed that the only bridge had been swept away by the water and the river was filled with mud. There was a girl in beautiful clothes standing on the bank, thinking about how to cross the river.

"Let me hold you to get across," master Tanshan volunteered. 

"Thank you," the girl said.

Then they crossed the river safely. All the way, the disciple started to speak but hesitated. Finally he could not help, and asked, "Master, monks like us can't be close to the female, aren't we? Then why did you hold the girl just now?"

"Ah, it is still on your mind! I have let her go; you are still holding her in your heart? I just helped her, had no other intension. It is you. Let the girl go out of your mind right now."
