(41) Religion, as a cultural phenomenon, concerns not only its multitudes of votaries but the whole human race. Sakyamuni established Buddhism over two millennia ago. His motive in establishing Buddhism was bestowing bliss on and safeguarding happiness of the whole human race. I humbly confess that my motive in taking the vows to become a Buddhist monk was not that I wanted at that time to accord my help to Sakyamuni for promoting Buddhism and supporting the sacred cause of universal liberation.
