(36) The line of conduct requiring a practitioner to “steer clear of all the possibilities which are to lure him into an evil practice and to strive to do anything that is beneficial to others so that he can purge his psyche of all the spiritual impurities” forms the only correct way to successfully embracing Buddhism. The line was established by Sakyamuni who, cherishing sincere compassion and love for the multitudes, sagely devised such a course of self-salvation. Such a way to self-salvation is easy and feasible. A practitioner’s progress along such a way in the direction of the destination of self-salvation can be conspicuous from day to day. It wouldn’t be difficult for an individual to set about doing a single good deed. However what is really difficult is for an individual to commit himself not only to doing good deeds throughout his whole life but to avoiding doing one single bad deed in his life. Therefore the adage which says that a practitioner needs to “steer clear of all the possibilities which are to lure him into an evil practice and to strive to do anything that is beneficial to others” must be duly regarded as a very demanding behavioral norm.(Form My Heart My Buddha)
