(30) It is only when a practitioner has sincerely cherished an adamant faith in Buddhism that Buddhism can be of real help to his or her life and really improve the quality of his or her life. This is an undeniable truth. Cherishing an adamant faith in Buddhism constitutes the indispensable prerequisite to an exertion to learn Buddhism. That is why the content of Avatamsake Sutra (华严经) lays primary emphasis on the issue of faith, because faith is not only the source of the momentum impelling a practitioner to concentrate hard on his self-cultivation but the impetus motivating him to perform deeds that benefit the multitudes. Faith should be sincere, unswerving, and constant. Sporadic or intermittent faith is futile faith.
