A man once asked a Zen master:” Where will you go after one hundred years?”
“I will change into a horse or a donkey.” The Zen Master answered.
“And then?” the man asked.
“I’ll go to Hell” The master said calmly.
“But you are a man of great goodness and wisdom, why would you go to Hell?”
“If I don’t go to Hell to teach you, who will?”
If Buddhism is reserved only for places of purity, does that mean the Buddha doesn’t exist in filthy bathrooms? There is not place that the Buddha doesn’t exist. Of course, the Buddha exists in Heaven, but isn’t there an even greater need for the Buddha in Hell? (From Zen Stories: The Staff and Shout of the Venerable Ones)
