A Line of Shaolin Cultural Delegation Visits Macao to Complete Performance for the “Heroes Gathering in Martial Arts Circles” Successfully at the Closing Ceremony

On August 4, 2018, invited by the Sports Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and Macao Lotus Satellite TV, a line of 37 visited Macao to perform and communicate including head of the cultural mission the Great Monk Yongxin, deputy director of the Cultural Department of Henan Province Ms Kang Jie, head of the art agency of the Cultural Department of Henan Province Ms Huang Hanqiu and others.

On the evening of August 4, 2018, a line of 37 of the mission arrived in Macao and received a warm welcome from director of the Macao Lotus Satellite TV Li Zisong and president of Macao Shaolin Kungfu Culture Association Cao Wenting.



On August 5, 2018, at 7:00 am, Abbot Shi Yongxin, deputy director of the Cultural Department Kang Jie, director of the art agency Huang Hanqiu and members of the visiting mission took group photos in front of the Ruins of St. Paul.



The Ruins of St. Paul is the world intangible cultural heritage and also one of Macao’s landmarks.
At noon, Director Li Zisong invited a line of Abbot Yongxin and deputy director Kangjie and other members to the Lotus Satellite TV to visit and communicate.



At 20:00 pm, a line of Abbot Shi Yongxin and deputy director Kang Jie was invited to perform for the “Heroes Gathering in Martial Arts Circles” at the closing ceremony, sponsored by the Sports Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and Macao Martial Arts, co-sponsored by Macao Government Tourist Office, Instituto Cultural and Cultural Industry Foundation and contracted by the Macao Lotus Satellite TV.





Shaolin Kungfu Monk Corps gave a stunning Kungfu performance to audience and the consummate skill won the audience’s applause on the scene. Also present at the meeting were secretary for social and cultural affairs of Macao Tan Junrong, minister of culture and propaganda department of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. Wan Sucheng, director of the Sports Bureau Pan Yongquan, vice president of Macao Martial Arts Wu Yangui, president of the Chinese wushu Association Zhang Qiuping, acting director of the Tourist Office Cheng Weidong, chairman of the executive committee of the Cultural Industry Foundation Liang Qingting, member Zhu Miaoli, chairman of the organizing committee of the World University Martial Art Championship Laojielong and others.



On August 6, at 10:00 am, director of the Macao Government Tourist Office Mu Xinxin met with a line of Abbot Shi Yongxin and deputy director Kang Jie for in-depth negotiation and exchanges.




Secretary Mu Xinxin praised Shaolin culture plays an important role in the foreign exchanges and wished to have more cooperation opportunities for cultural exchanges between Macao and inland. It was hoped that the Cultural Department for Henan Province could lead Shaolin cultural mission to get involved in exchanges and cooperation between Macao and inland. Deputy director Kang Jie said that Shaolin culture is trustworthy, diverse and tolerant. Kungfu courses are opened in some educational institutions at home and abroad, through which children could enhance vitality. Finally deputy director Kang Jie invited secretary Mu Xinxin to lead members of Macau Government Instituto Cultural to visit Henan for cultural exchanges and discuss cooperation and cultural exchanges. It was hoped that the Macao Special Administrative Region could introduce Shaolin culture and shaolin Kungfu and build bridges to deepen cooperation and communication between Macao and inland.

At 11:00 am, president of Macao Shaolin Kungfu Culture Association Cao Wenting invited a line of Abbot Shi Yongxin and deputy director Kang Jie to visit Macao Shaolin Kungfu Culture Association.

At 12 noon, secretary for social and cultural affairs of Macao Tan Junrong, director of the Macao Government Tourist Office Mu Xinxin, counselor of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR Government Lin Yunni and others met with Abbot Shi Yongxin and deputy director Kang Jie to communicate. Secretary Tan Junrong always pays special attention to cultural exchange and propagation and has already held mangy large-scale exhibitions, for example, international film exhibitions, the China-Portugal culture and arts festival, international youth dance festival, heroes gathering in all martial arts circles initiated three years ago and other activities.




The 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland is coming next year. In the exchange, Secretary Tan Junrong and deputy director Kang Jie hoped to have more cooperation opportunities in cultural exchanges between Macao and Henan to deepen the friendship relations between them and carry forward and inherit the Chinese culture well. In addition, Macao government will invite the Buddha tooth to view for Macao people and tourists. It was hoped that the Shaolin Temple could send Kungfu monks guarding and carry out Shaolin Kungfu performance and teaching. 

At 15:00 pm, minister of culture and propaganda department of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. Wan Sucheng met and communicated with Abbot Shi Yongxin and deputy director Kang Jie in the drawing room.



Minister Wang Suchang appraised that the Shaolin culture is a big, comprehensive brand combining sport, culture and others. The Shaolin culture plays a big role in the process of the Chinese culture’s promotion and inheritance and is an essential business card in the foreign exchanges.

At 18:00 pm, a line of Abbot Shi Yongxin and deputy director Kang Jie met and communicated with president of Macao Foundation Wu Zhiliang.


Macao is an international free port, one of the most populous areas and has a feature of coexistence and integration of eastern and western cultures. The historic centre of Macao officially became UNESCO World Heritage Site on July 15, 2005.

On the eve of receiving the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to the motherland, the Shaolin cultural and art delegation visited Macao and gave a brilliant Shaolin Kungfu performance, which received a warm welcome from Macao people and built a bridge to deepen exchanges between Macao and Henan. In the process of communication with secretary for social and cultural affairs of Macao Tan Junrong and others, Macao government expressed its willingness to deepen further exchanges and cooperation with Henan government and hoped to carry forward traditional national essence through Henan Opera, Shaolin Kungfu and so on representing features of Henan.
