Ven. Abbot Yongxin Makes a Special Dharma Talk in Shaolin Cultural Center Austria

At 10:00 a.m. of September 11, 2012(local time in Vienna, Austria), the first European Shaolin Culture Festival in Vienna, Austria officially opened. The activity covered picture shows of Shaolin culture, special lecture for Shaolin culture, Shaolin culture experience and so on.

Delicate pictures on Shaolin culture

 

In the office of Shaolin Cultural Center Austria, Ven. Abbot Yongxin first met with Mrs. Marina Jahn, vice-chairman of Austrian Buddhist Association and Mr. Heinz Vettermann, secretary general of Austrian Buddhist Association. Both went into depth on the development and active role of Buddhism in China and the West. Then Ven. Abbot Yongxin accompanied Guo Guozhi, deputy director general of Henan Administration for Religious Affairs, Mrs. Marina Jahn and Mr. Heinz Vettermann visit the picture shows of "Millennial Shaolin and Centennial Images" and introduced the content and implication of some pictures in detail. In front of the pictures on Lixue Pavilion of Shaolin Temple, Ven. Abbot Yongxin squatted and explained everyone the story that the second patriarch Huike of Chan Buddhism cut off his arm to express determination to study Buddhism doctrine. One of the two pictures on Lixue Pavilion was taken in 1928 when Shaolin Temple was destroyed; the other was taken after renovation of Shaolin Temple, both were in stark contrast.

 

 

Political counselor Sun Congbin delivered address

 

Sun Congbin, political counselor of Chinese Embassy to Austria, spoke highly of the significant contribution Shaolin Temple and Ven. Abbot Shi Yongxin made in Sino-Austrian cultural exchange, expressed his sincere congratulations on the first European Shaolin Culture Festival and hoped more such activities be held in the future so as to promote Chinese traditional culture.

In order to deepen Shaolin culture amateurs in Austria and local Buddhism believers’ acquaintance and understanding to Shaolin Temple and Shaolin culture, Ven. Abbot Shi Yongxin made a special Dharma talk in the worshipping hall of Shaolin Cultural Center Austria. He explained and talked about the implication of Shaolin culture from the story of Shaolin Temple, the inheritance of Shaolin culture, the cultural exchange of Shaolin Temple in recent years and other aspects.

In order to reward the positive contribution that Chinese Societies and associations made to the dissemination and development in Austria, Ven. Abbot Shi Yongxin awarded delicate trophies to Austrian Buddhist Association, Shaolin Cultural Center Austria and Austria-China Cultural Exchange Association.

After the Dharma talk, Ven. Abbot Shi Yongxin was interviewed by the reporter of Austrian Cultural Radio (well-known media in Austria) and talked about the inheritance and development of Shaolin culture, the original intention and significance of European Shaolin Culture Festival.
