At 11:00 a.m. of September 10, 2012(local time in Berlin, Germany), Mrs. Pieper, State Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Germany, met with Ven. Abbot Shi Yongxin and Shaolin Sangha.

Minister Pieper expressed her warm welcome to the arrival of Ven. Abbot Yongxin and Shaolin culture delegation and met with Ven. Abbot Yongxin and the members of Shaolin culture delegation in her office. She said, “on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Sino-German diplomatic relations establishment, the holding of “European Shaolin Culture Festival” will deepen the friendship between Chinese people and German people and let more German people understand and learn Shaolin culture through the activities.” Minister Pieper also indicated that as the ancestral temple of Chan Buddhism, Shaolin Temple had a certain influence all over the world. Shaolin Kungfu and Chan meditation of Shaolin culture were popular in European countries. She said she would make time to visit Shaolin Temple during the activity “China’s German Year” which would be held in the next year.

Ven. Abbot Yongxin introduced to Minister Pieper about the main contents of Shaolin Culture Festival including Dharma Assembly for praying, Shaolin Kungfu Test Conference, picture shows of Shaolin culture and so on. He said, “Shaolin Temple always pays attention to cultural exchange because it was the crystallization of cultural exchange. Shaolin Temple keeps lots of fine traditions which were unchanged over the last millennium. Shaolin Temple advocates purifying our heart through personal cultivation to find the wisdom of life and attain enlightenment. “European Shaolin Culture Festival” aims at deepening the culture exchange between China and Germany. Hope German teenagers come to Shaolin Temple to study and exchange, make common improvement and progress.”

During the meeting, Ven. Abbot Yongxin presented Minister Pieper the delicate porcelain with the painting of the three religions and the nine schools of philosophies of Shaolin Temple and explained to her about the integrated process of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism in Shaolin Temple and the positive impact. Then Ven. Abbot Yongxin presented Minister Pieper the statue of Five Dhyani Buddhas of Shaolin Temple and wished the friendship between China and Germany last forever and German people lead a peaceful and happy life.
