The Sacrifice-Offering Assembly Hosted by Shaolin Temple to Celebrate the Birthday of Kinnara

January 17, 2020, or the 23th day of the twelfth lunar month is called the off-year in traditional customs of China. It is the day to offer sacrifices to the kitchen god and spring dust meanwhile it is the birthday of Kinnara--Shaolin Temple’s dharma protectors. To celebrate the birthday of Kinnara, Shi Yongxin, abbot of Shaolin Temple led the west and east disciples holding sacrifice-offering dharma assembly grandly, praying world peace, prosperity, security and good weather for the crops in the new year.




Kinnara is one race of the eight races in Buddhism. He was originally the singer and musician of Indian gods, but has the special position and standard in Shaolin Temple.






At 6pm, the board was hitting to gather monks in Shaolin Temple. Shaolin monks gathered in the Kinnara Hall. Venerable Master Yongxin burned incense and presided over the dharma assembly and led monks praying. The virtues and merits was transferred to the world peace, prosperity, security and good weather for the crops.
